Vom Schiefer
(See also: Hermannsberg, VDP Ortswein, Vom Vulkan)
On paper the Vom Schiefer (from slate, in English) from Gut Hermannsberg is a VDP Ortswein / Village Wine the official name of which is “Niederhäuser Riesling trocken”. In fact, it’s actually always a single-vineyard wine from the estate’s monopole Hermannsberg site, the only one of Gut Hermannsberg’s 7 terroirs or VDP Grosse Lagen / “Grand Crus” with a clay-slate soil. It has the cool and racy personality of this site with the white peach fruit and minty freshness typical for the Hermannsberg. From 12 to 30+ year old vineyards it has underplayed power and can age for more than a decade.
