VDP Gutswein / Estate Wine
(See also: VDP / Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter)
What you get when you buy a Gutswein / Estate Wine, for example from Gut Hermannsberg in the Nahe region, is a wine from vineyards that have been tended precisely according to the instructions of our winemaker Karsten Peter and these grapes were turned into wines with the very particular style of Gut Hermannsberg by him. They are not single-vineyard wines, but each comes from a number of sites around the town of Bad Kreuznach, at the heart of the Nahe region. The soils here are a bit heavier and more fertile than in the 30 hecatres / 74 acres or own vineyards and the slopes are also less steep. It is ideal country for growing fruit-driven white wines that are light on their feet. We bottle them all with a crew cap / Stelvin closure to retain all the aroma freshness. All our other wines have cork closures.
