Trockenbeerenauslese / TBA
(See also: Botrytis / Noble Rot,Prädikatswein / QmP)
The bottled “honey” of the Riesling grape carries this long name that’s almost always abbreviated to three letters. Along with Tokaji Essencia from Hungary, these are the densest, most unctuous and complex dessert wines in the world, but at Gut Hermannsberg the magic of the Riesling grape and our terroir gives them an astonishing brightness and vitality too. The production of these wines is extremely time-consuming and labor-intensive. The quantity of syrupy juice that flows from the press after a whole week of painstakingly selecting individual shriveled nobly rotten berries rarely tops 100 liters and can be much less than that. Needless to say, the price is high and at Gut Hermannsberg our record for a young TBA is more than 10,000 Euros for the only magnum of 2015 Kupfergrube Trockenbeerneauslese.
