Spätlese
(See also: Prädikatswein / QmP)
Because the wines of this category of white German wine are medium-sweet they have a hard time getting taken seriously, but the best Riesling Spätlese from the Nahe and other northerly wine regions of Germany can be spectacular thanks to their wide spectrum of aromas, enormous juiciness and freshness. Although they aren’t the focus of Gut Hermannsberg’s production we release wines in this style each vintage from the Rotenberg and Steinberg, the two coolest of the estate’s VDP Grosse Lagen / “Grand Crus”. It’s important to note that these are not dessert wines, and are better partnered with blue cheese or fresh fruit than desserts. We also suggest conversation, which our wines combine with beautifully.
