Qualitätswein / QbA
(see also: Prädikatswein / QmP)
Today at Gut Hermannsberg and most of Germany’s other leading producers are focused on dry wines that are legally Qualitätswein (QbA). The wine law requires these wines to be clean, correct and typical for the grape variety and region. The latter requirement sometimes causes problems, because there is no single taste that is typical, say, for a dry Riesling from the Nahe. The diversity of soil and climate within a region results in a fascinating diversity of character that those charged with implementing those charged with implementing the wine law sometimes struggle to cope with.
