When you enter the gateway of Gut Hermannsberg the vineyard you pass through as you drive up to the ensemble of historic estate buildings is the 5.25 hectare / 13 acre Hermannsberg monopole site created by estate’s Prussian founders in 1902. Today it is one of the most important of our 7 terroirs or VDP Grosse Lagen/ “Grand Crus” and the only one with a clay-slate soil. We produce two wines from each year, both dry Rieslings, the VDP Ortswein / Village Wine Vom Schiefer released about 6 months after the harvest and the GG released two years after the harvest.
