Compost

Nothing sounds more boring to anyone lacking gardening and agricultural experience than compost. It is made from manure and vegetable “waste” of various kinds which undergoes a complex biochemical transformation. However, for organic and biodynamic wine producers this is the best thing they can add to their soil if it has been made from good raw materials in the correct manner. Gut Hermannsberg may not be organic or biodynamic, but we are intensely concerned with working in harmony with nature, and producing our own compost for the vineyards is therefore an essential task for us. Soil health and vitality are essential goals for any serious form of sustainable agriculture, including grape growing in the 7 terroirs of Gut Hermannsberg.
