Brut

(See also: Extra Brut, Sekt / Sparkling Wine)

Most high quality sparkling wines carry the Brut designation on the label, as do almost all of those produced by Gut Hermannsberg. It means that they taste dry, but not that they are analytically bone-dry.

A few grams per liter of sweetness added to the wine immediately before it is finished for sale, usually in liquid form as “dosage”, is usually necessary to balance the pronounced acidity common to all high quality sparkling wines.

Beware! Sparkling wines labeled Dry / Sec /Trocken taste medium-dry or even sweeter!
