A very concentrated and energetic Rotenberg GG that has a lot of the smoked bacon and wild herbs character typical for this site.
Only now is this sleek masterpiece slowly coming into its best drinking window and has many years ahead of it.
No doubt this wine would have been showered with praise by the critics if they hadn’t judged it so early, and if this terroir was more famous!

Altenbamberger Rotenberg
The Rotenberg is a lost world of wine far removed from Gut Hermannsberg and civilization in the valley of the Alsenz, a tributary of the Nahe. There, this south-facing hillside thrones over wild woods and untouched meadows. The name comes from the red color (rot in German) of the volcanic rhyolite soil that results from its high iron oxide content. The Rotenberg wines have enormous mineral expression, tasting dramatically herbal and smoky. Our highest altitude vineyard is also our steepest and is continuously stroked by the wind, giving its wines an almost supernatural freshness.
With roasted chicken or guinea hen with preserved lemons and potatoes. Also excellent with spicy Chinese and many other East Asian dishes as long as the sauce isn’t too sweet. The current vintage works best there.
