Cool Climate
(See also: Climate Change)
Often consumers far from Germany mistakenly think that our cool climate at Gut Hermannsberg in the Nahe Valley means that temperatures don’t ever get as high as 30°C (86°F) or more. That’s not true though. During the last decade we had an average of just over 23 hot days per year! However, the large diurnal (day – night) temperature difference in the Nahe Valley helps the Riesling vine has cope so well with climate change. Thankfully the Gut Hermannsberg wines have retained their distinctive cool climate profile in spite of the recent warming: delicate aromas, a sleek body and racy acidity. When the words cool climate are used in connection with wine it usually refers to this flavor profile, and that’s also the most important thing for us!
