Climate Change
(See also: Cool Climate)
Climate change has been clearly apparent in the vineyards of Germany since at least 1990, but it took until the “summer of the century” in 2003 to convince the last skeptics. At Gut Hermannsberg the climate during the growing season has warmed by an average 1.5° Celsius during the last 50 years and we are now slightly warmer then Burgundy/France used to be back then. That means we are still much cooler than Bordeaux, Rioja or Tuscany, never mind Barossa Valley or Napa Valley! In spite of this warming, the Gut Hermannsberg wines retain their distinctive cool climate profile: delicate aromas, a sleek body and racy acidity. That’s also our long-term goal.
